Friday we picked up MahJongg once again and spent that evening at Cuzzie's with the group.   After enjoying our friends we took off for the Opera House in Rockport to hear Chris Bohjalian speak.   That was a pure pleasure hearing about his life and how he prepared his 23rd novel, The Lioness, which takes place in Africa and has rave reviews.   His advice:  "Write in the genre you love to read.   Read all the time.   Write every day.   Write because you love it, not because you
ever hope to get rich."
This novel is very much about race and social injustice, and the Black characters from both continents (USA and Africa) experience horrific discrimination.   "The character of Terrance Dutton offers the perspective of a Black American and his backstory delves deep into the racial issues and struggles of 1960's America and Hollywood."   He wanted this book to be a thriller and wanted the reader to understand and care about each character.   He also wanted the reader to turn the pages frantically to determine who was going to live and who was going to die."
I have read several of his books and certainly love his writing.
Can't wait to start reading this one.
