I'm looking through today's FREE PRESS and I turn to a page called PET ADOPTION. Look here! Does that not look just like Spencer? As I read about him I see words that apply to our buddy - "epitome of a gentle giant" and "curious" and "always ready to explore new surroundings or make new friends" and "friendly disposition." That is Spencer for sure!
Please think about giving Elton a new home or a gift for a friend. Call Steve at 596-0055 for further information

At dusk last evening low hanging clouds appeared in the distance. It happen to be one of those things one stared at and could not stop noticing the magic they presented. It brings you a world where green trees take over, mountains exist sit before the sky and white fluffy clouds hang low in a distance.
Summer days provide such a picture. Here's a photo out our kitchen window. We get a morning look at part of our flower garden. It is bursting with color and growing just perfectly. It is only June! I wonder what it will look like in July/August.
I'm sitting in the Clarion Hotel lobby in Portland waiting for Michelle to come and pick me up. You see I was supposed to have shoulder surgery today. Leon brought me down to the hotel yesterday because my surgery was scheduled for 7:45 this morning and I was to be at the hospital at 6:15 A.M. I noticed Leon's blood shot eyes and told him to call the doctor. The response he got was "get to ER immediately"!
So Leon drove all the way home and checked into ER there because he knew those doctors. I find out late last night that he had a heart attack and they are moving him into the Portland Hospital by ambulance. He sounds alright as I talked to him many times this morning after cancelling my surgery. Michelle came to pick me up. Now that is a loving friend indeed. As I sit here in the lobby a hotel worker is vacuuming the carpeted floor as my legs are lifted so she can do her job right. With make up and hair spray left at home my appearance is somewhat daunting. Sadness sets in, my thoughts go to what is important in life. It's not your appearance that matters. It's not the inconveniences that occur. It's the ones you love deeply and care for immensely that need your attention. Belonging to the Rockport Garden Club is the best decision I made when we moved here 20-something years ago. It is a wonderful club with a whole lot of loving friends. This plant sale is spectacular and should not be missed, if only to come and learn about flowers and plants before purchasing.
Come and share in this adventure on June 1st. Those lovely yellow daffodils are a spring time pleasure. I see them all over and took a pencil to paper and did a quick sketch of them. They serve as great centerpieces for a table setting as well.
When driving home on Old County Road we turn into a new senior care facility. The driveway into the development was blasted out and this is what sits there now. The sky and clouds spoke to us as the bare branch trees just stood there. Natural beauty pleases the eye!
What a cool tote bag when shopping for a few things. People search the Trader Joe's places to find these bags. They are big enough to fit "your lunch, a water bottle and a few sundries" and are sold in several colors. The problem is they can only be found in selected stores and are purchased several at a time. It's just perfect to fill it with a gift for a friend. They are not found in Maine. I wonder if you can buy them online. Something like this, for the inexpensive cost, should be available at all Trader Joe's. What a great idea!
It happened to be Dean's turn to leave this life and he is going to be missed by many. We attended his Celebration of Life yesterday with such sadness. The first time we met him he came to Rose Cottage Bakery to see Megan sharing a cup of coffee with sweet treats and that was several years back . While singing opera in Germany and here in the states, humorously he called his voice his birth defect. He got burned out singing opera in Germany, came home and built boats. Both large and small models. The Owl and the Turtle bookstore employed him as a manager at one time. Occasionally he would sing to pass the time being heard in downtown Camden. His biggest joy was being with dogs and was also a dog walker. I remember a time he came to dinner and Spencer became his best buddy. I opened the Sunday New York Times and discovered this piece in the Metropolitan Diary section that fits Dean to a "T"! He would totally have loved it. His love of afternoon tea was shared by all and dog treats were waiting for attendees to help themselves. Dean left this world suddenly taking that happiness and joy with him - and an operatic voice with a dog tagging along.
