The cover of this book tells the whole story.    It's about a two cousins, a string of pearls and the places they live.   This Motherless Land shares the lives of Liv, who lives in England and Funke, living a comfortable life in Nigeria, when tragedy strikes.  Funke goes to experience a life much different and gets to know her wild English cousin, Liv, who is free-spirited, existing in dilapidated surroundings with a family that is cold and distant.

This is where the story really begins as we read of the many happenings that occur between two cousins as they grow closer and closer.   Their mothers were two totally dissimilar people and the choices they make throughout the story lead Funke and Liv to experience struggles.   This examination of identity over two decades leads us to culture differences and race happenings.

I loved this book.   It read quickly with surprises throughout.   The writing is exceptional where "exclamation points pinged after every sentence."    The pile of books for visitors to read is growing at the Bausch house!
