HAPPENINGS IN MAINE

 I had a couple of books going on in June.    The Stars Are Fire was one quick, great read.   It takes place in Maine in 1947 when a catastrophic wild fire speeds up the coast from Kennebuckport to BarHarbor...a happening that really occurred.    The story is about Grace Holland, her two little children and her husband Gene - who is off helping deal with the fire.   "Grace confronts both the disaster and her tumultuous marriage, ultimately leading her to a new direction in life".    Themes of resilience, love and survival lead into how she handles the loss of her house and everything in it!    The writing keeps one interested while dealing with survival among
the chaos that takes place.

I love the descriptive writing:  "The jeweler has white hair, poorly trimmed, yellow teeth, and wrinkles that might have been by cut by the diamonds
​he sells".   I can just picture him.
