BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN

This read was simply wonderful and explained the feelings of ALL the characters in the book, with Bea being the main person who the story centers around.   It begins as Bea is 11 years old is sent to America, leaving her home in London during WWII for her protection to live with a family there.   She moves in with Nancy's family - a husband and two boys.   After developing a bond with the American family, the war ends and she returns across the waters.   Bea struggles with the emotional pull between her birth family and the life she had built in America.   Several decades pass and the story takes us through the relationships of the  two families.

The chapters are short and offer the perspective of each person in the story.   The passage of time is given at the bottom of the page as it goes through the lives of the characters and how they change.   "It's a quiet, reflective novel about what it means to be part of a family and how people carry the past with them throughout their lives".    The story is beautifully written, full of companionship and heartache.
